I really have no plans of talking about the issue, but since all my friends have been festering and pestering me asking me for what I have to say about Angel Locsin’s ober-da-bakod stint, what the heck? Fine.
So where to begin? Again, I am not loyal to ABS-CBN 2. But if your definition of being a kapamilya or kapuso is based on who I like better, then fine, call me a kapamilya. Most of the shows I love are on ABS-CBN, and in GMA 7’s history, I’ve only had a few shows that really glued my eyes to the screen. One of them — CLICK. Click was a youth-oriented show aired on Saturday afternoons opposite G-Mik. I mean come on, between G-Mik and Click, I’d definitely choose Click. That was the first time I heard of her name. So when Click bade goodbye, I never heard of Angel again until her boyfriend’s fatal fall. And I think that Miko Sotto’s tragic death actually launched Angel’s career as a star. We all wanted to symphatise with the grieving girlfriend (not including Claudine Barretto who was somehow blamed for Rico Yan’s unexpected death, oh Gawd, I miss him).
Anyway, back to Angel Locsin, do I like her or not? The answer is YES. I’ve always said that I like Angel as a person. There were too much good publicity about her — being hardworking, professional, dedicated, and thoughtful in the set. And there’s no doubt, she’s a superstar. But there’s a big difference between being a star and being an actress. And that difference, most of the time fuels a celebrity’s decision of moving to another network. I never liked Angel’s acting. I will not discuss Angel’s reasons because I am not aware of them. Angel could have received millions for doing this, but I just don’t care. What I will talk about is how I see the situation.
Take for example Anne Curtis. Anne used to be this not-so-brainy-sexy-chick when she was still with GMA. She was stereotyped. I didn’t like her, and so when she became a kapamilya, I was the first to cringe. Later I realised how stupid GMA 7 was for letting Anne go. Anne turned out to be a brilliant actress. Effortlessly, she gave Heart Evangelista a run for her career when they shared the spotlight on Hiram, a teleserye. I just couldn’t believe how GMA missed it. Who could’ve expected, Anne Curtis is now THE Anne Curtis. She is a star AND an actress. In fact, considered as one of the most important actresses of this generation. Other examples, Toni Gonzaga and Sarah Geronimo.
True. Angel may be following Anne’s footsteps. I mean, come on. We’ve heard nice things about Angel, but we never heard nice things about her acting. Is it Angel’s fault? Not entirely. If the roles being given to you always require you to wear skimpy shorts and ride a horse so the male viewers could get a glimpse of your, er, talent, who will not get tired? Sadly for Angel, she is stereotyped. She is a character actress. And her talent needs a lot of honing. Of course, she could’ve told the management about that. This is a free country, you can always complain, hehe. But again, as I see it, it’s a wise move for Angel’s “acting” career.
Of course, there are always those who weren’t able to grow within ABS-CBN’s fences and saw the golden opportunity on the other side. Dennis Trillo, perfect example. Alfred Vargas. And oh, Angel Locsin, too. She was under Mr. M’s Talent Centre.
Ingrate. That’s what they call Angel now. I wouldn’t really call her that. You see, my point is, if you want “change” then move. If that’s what you think is good for your career, go ahead. After all, the Angel Locsin-GMA 7 relationship is not really one way. It’s symbiotic. Yes, GMA 7 made Angel a star, but have you ever thought where GMA 7 could’ve been if it weren’t for Angel? So GMA7, please don’t destroy the girl. Let’s all move on. And let her go.
And don’t get me started with that “utang na loob” value. Walang utang na loob si Angel Locsin? Oh, come on, get a freakin’ grip. It may be the most abused Filipino value there is. It’s a good value a’right, but most of the time, it’s the source of corruption. The contract expired. They won’t renew. Plain and simple. Fair and square. Nothing personal. It’s strictly business.
Anyway, I still don’t like Angel as an actress. But if she could pull off an Anne Curtis, then I’m hers. Oh, sana magkasama sila ni Anne Curtis sa isang teleserye.

I wish people would just set aside the issue about AL. I do not think there is anything wrong with making career moves.
Showbiz is still business. Besides love of acting and all that, the biz is her financial blood.
I would not call her ingrate. But probably it would be better if she remains a freelancer for a while, not just because she is waiting for the finalization of her ABS-CBN contract. That way the move would not be too harsh for her image. AND, she could learn a lot by being a freelancer-really learn the ropes of being an artiste. She could explore other star options.
But hey, she is a bankable actress. She has nothing to fear. Although if she did display a pompous attitude, it could still hurt her being bankable.
Anyway, this is just what I think.
Angel Locin in ABS-CBN… What a sight! Im a true blue Kapamilya and she would be great addition to the family.
i’m actually excited to see her on ABS. hahaha. i even had a dream about her last night. weird. haha
I think that what made Angel Locsin’s transfer to ABS CBN so ugly was that she lied to the very same people who made her a star. The GMA 7 people had repeatedly asked her about the rumors, but she played coy and lied to their faces.
While I agree that in showbiz, moving to where the pasture is greener is something common, I still believe that it could be done in a professional and honest manner. Informing your bosses (albeit, former) a few hours before your camp goes on national television to announce your impending transfer to the rival network is definitely not professional.
It is true that what Angel and GMA 7 had was a symbiotic relationship, but before GMA made ger big, she was a struggling, no-name actress. GMA 7 could have chosen a different actress to build up. But they had chosen her. And the least she could have done was to afford them respect.
I have always been partial to ABS CBN, primarily because I always felt they had funnier sitcoms, better musical varieties, but I don’t think I’d be watching any Angel Locsin shows any time soon. If there is one thing I can’t stand, it is an actress who has bitten the hand that fed her.
Angel’s [impulsive] transfer to ABS may be considered unprofessional and unethical. However, the same goes with GMA’s uncalled attempts to sabotage her career.
I don’t think it was an impulsive transfer. She had been offered by GMA 7 to renew her contract way back in March, she refused. Then she turned down projects that were brought her way and gave the excuse of going to school. Apparently, GMA 7 artists are allowed to decline shows when they come in conflict with school. So, Angel said she was to study fashion designing in London. Of course we all know it was nothing but a two week seminar/crash course. People are now saying that it was just a ploy to appease the then suspecting GMA 7 executives. And also to ensure that Angel would not be here when all hell breaks loose after the confirmation of her transfer to the other side of the fence.
Nonetheless, if there are any attempts to sabotage her career, I do agree they are just as unprofessional. However, I don’t think GMA 7 is doing that. Whatever negative write ups she’s getting, they are expected. I didn’t like what she did and so I’m writing about it. But I’m not on GMA 7’s payroll. Heck, I don’t even like the word “kapuso”. But point is, Angel brought it upon herself. And what makes it so sad is that every time I see Becky Aguila’s face on TV I keep thinking _ “mukhang pera.” Why she opted to betray her loyal handlers in GMA, the very same people who treated her like a princess, in favor of Agiula whom she sued last year on charges of missing money, is beyond me.
History will judge if Angel Locsin made the right choice., career wise. But on the level of ethics and moral standard? She is definitely no Darna or Alwina.
Looks like she didn’t learn a thing or two from those characters.
As for GMA 7, I certainly hope there are no crazy intent to taint Angel. That would be unethical. And I’m not too happy with ABS CBN either. The Buzz and Boy Abunda’s tacky attempt in damage control comes out both wanting and too much. I guess wanting in substance, but too much in hype. Pero OA talaga. Come one, we know what she did, we either tolerate it or condemn it, no need to sugar coat and twist facts.
This drama is really a lesson to all of us. With the influence of commission earning agents, the cash inflow, the gullibility of fans and the lack of education and good role models, we really shouldn’t expect much from celebrities. More often than not, they will disappoint.
