Goodbye, Pinoy Big Brother!

Posted on by Yoshke in Rants, TV |

Status: Traumatised
Music: Say OK
– Vanessa Hudgens

For the longest time, I’ve been a fan of Pinoy Big Brother. From Season 1 to Celebrity and Teen Editions to the current season, I tried to defend PBB from my friend-detractors. And now I find myself being one of them — the detractors. This post might be a spur-of-the-moment thing, but considering how the PBB management has been trying to manipulate everything in the show, even lacking logic or rationality and breaking their own rules of the game, I realised I’ve had enough.

What’s with the Balik-Bahay thing? This is sooo unfair. The people have already decided. And they chose to kick them out of the house. In Season 1, there was also something like this, but that was to replace Bob (forced eviction). This time, Maricris already had a replacement. There is certainly no reason for doing this Balik-Bahay crap. This is just another desperate attempt to save Wendy‘s ass and shove her back into the house.

The ex-housemates have already seen and experienced the outside world. And they have been evicted. By the people. Putting them back in the competition ruins the very essence of the program.

And rationalising it by saying that it has been done in other countries? That’s rubbish. They must have had shortage of people creative enough to come up with a hokum. Or maybe not. After all, I doubt if they could really think of a good excuse for this.

And don’t give me that everyone-deserves-a-second-chance reason. Second chance, my ass. That’s bull shit. I know that’s sooo sweet, almost romantic but damn, this is a game. The rules are simple. Housemates nominate those they want out. Viewers decide who’s gonna stay. Viewers. The people. The ones watching the show. The ones who vote. Using their own money. Just to save the ones they like. And trash those they abhor. I really believe that this Balik-Bahay rubbish is a betrayal of the people. And their trust. The people who supported them. And I’m one of them. (Yes, I feel betrayed. Console me.)

I would worship PBB for all its worth kung entertainment value rin lang. HOWEVER, this time, they just crossed a very very important line. This is also a game. And so, fairness is crucial. As much as I wanted to make the show more exciting by letting them put Wendy back into the game, I know that’s not fair — to the housemates left inside and the viewers who spent money just to save their housemates of choice. Because I said, this is not just a show, or a reality show, this is a game.

I can’t believe they’re doing all of this just because of their vested interests. Two things. The roots of all evil. One is money. And the other is Wendy. They might’ve earned a lot when Wendy was nominated that most people, even those who didn’t like Dionne and Saicy, voted for the other two just to have Wendy evicted. And now that Wendy is up for another chance, the management may be enjoying another round of addictive profits. And here we go again, Wendy gets so much airtime. Stories all focus on the Wendy-Bruce all-for-show fake team-up (hoping they would make a bankable loveteam outside). Direk Lauren Dyogi must really love this bitch. And that makes Dyogi a filthier bitch, licking Wendy’s ass all the time.

And if airtime ain’t enough, just take a look at this article:

While the housemates were confined in the boys room, Wendy and the others were allowed out of their secret room and into the kitchen to prepare their lunch…

Hmmm. Wendy and the others? And Wendy is the only one who deserves a name to be mentioned? Who is she, Nicole Kidman? Damn it.

I really, really feel betrayed and violated. This is a scam! We are cheated by the management. Sayang lang ang mga load natin na ginamit para ma-evict yung ayaw natin, maibabalik lang din naman pala sila. Ano ba ‘to eleksyon? Hanggang PBB ba naman, uso ang dayaan? Pinaglalaruan na lang tayo ng PBB. Niloloko na lang tayo. Binabastos na lang tayo. Ginagago na lang tayo. The viewers are not dumb. We are not stupid. I-boycott ang PBB.

Fuck you, PBB. You’ve just lost a fan. And I’m sure I’m not alone.

(But I really hope this is just one of my spur-of-the-moment things. Coz I love the show. Or at least, I used to.) *photo courtesy of 43things.com

A Letter to PBB Ex-Housemate Wendy

Posted on by Yoshke in Rants, TV |

Dear (?) Wendy Valdez of Pinoy Big Brother Season 2,

You don’t know how much you made me happy when you got evicted from the PBB house last night. It was one of the most glorious moments of my TV-watching life. It made my day.

At sa ABS-CBN, mabuti naman at hindi n’yo minanipulate yung resulta ng botohan tulad ng pag-manipulate nyo sa airtime (the Bitch, Wendy, had had more than her share) at pag-edit out ng mga scenes wherein the Bitch was backstabbing the other housemates.

At muli, Wendy, my final words, mabuti nga sa’yo. At feeling mo, popular ka. Sana ay hindi ka magka-career dito sa labas.

OUT, You Psycho!

Posted on by Yoshke in Humor, TV |

Warning: If you are someone who loves Maricris of Pinoy Big Brother or if you ARE Maricris, please stop reading, skip this entry, or leave now. Thanks very much.

The Maricris-Beatriz dispute inside the PBB house was priceless. I loved how Bea handled the situation and how she was able to deal with what Andre calls “psychotically violent” Maricris. Winner ka, Bea. Isa kang alamat.

Anyway, that was arguably the most entertaining confrontation inside the big yellow house since the Keanna-Mitch conflict of the Celebrity Edition. You still remember this?

Ang hirap kasi sa’yo, ang KFC mo! Ay, KSP pala.

That was one of Keanna’s glorious moments. Haha. Anyway, Maricris had her share of oh-my-god-what-did-she-say moments. While having that heated argument with Bea, she uttered:

I didn’t that. I didn’t that!

But wait, there’s more. She kept on saying she was calm when she was shouting her lungs out. Calm my ass, you jerk. Haha. And oh, is it just me or she really pronounced honest — HA-nest; and judge — JADS?

And how about Bea? Well, she told Maricris:

Don’t be such a pushy!

I believe the sentence is actually not a sentence yet. Unless, Bea meant… you know… just replace H with another S; starts with a P and sounds like fussy. And yes, that word is sooo Maricris.

Damn, she’s really crazy. Or maybe I just love Bea so much. (She’s my second favourite female housemate. Next to Gee-Ann.)

OUT! You pathetic freak of nature.

[Edit: Naawa naman ako bigla nung lumabas na nga si Maricris sa bahay. Hehehe.]

If you are someone who loves Maricris or if you ARE Maricris, I told you so.

On Big Brother Philippines-Slovenia Swap

Posted on by Yoshke in TV |

Music: I Can’t Make You Love Me -
Nina

Alright. Last night marked the start of the Big Brother housemate swap between the Philippines and Slovenia when Tina Semolic entered the Pinoy Big Brother house. I may know a lot about Europe but to be honest, it’s only now that an interest in Slovenia sparked somewhere in my body, hehe. Before this swap thing, the only thing about Slovenia that I was aware of was that it’s near Italy, and that it’s official languages are Italian and Hungarian (or whatever Slavic language).

Tina is really pretty. And I don’t think she’d have any problem living in the Philippines for a week. She has a good grasp of the English language and that’s enough for anyone to survive here in this hot country.

What I’m worried about is BruceBig Brother Slovenia, for sure, is more liberated by a lightyear than our very conservative local counterpart. In Europe, sex is something that people are not ashamed of doing, and letting other people know they’re getting some is definitely not something they don’t want to do. Bruce has already entered the house, too. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed wishing that no one would hit on him (which is almost impossible). Hahaha.

And I am more than surprised to learn that the PBB house is way better than the one in Slovenia. It has better facilities, more spacious rooms, and more elegant design. Check out this link to know what I’m talking about.

Anyway, I’m loving Gee-Ann more and more. Face that damn automatic nomination Gee-Ann, and we’ll be here to always save you!!! Hahaha. I’m sad that she decided to give up Pamela and give her to a kid that might be needing Pamela more. But I think this is for Gee-Ann’s maturity and growth. It’s painful but she’ll get over it. And I will, too.

I’ve always said that Wendy is someone I don’t hate or like. But now, aaaaargh! Gawd, does anyone here know how to perform kulam?

The Ratings Game: The Nationwide Invasion

Posted on by Yoshke in Lists, TV |

Music:
Beautiful Disaster - Kelly Clarkson

My friends have always considered me as a true-blue kapamilya. The truth is: I still believe that being loyal to a TV network per se is crazy. As for my case, believe it or not, I go for the station that gives me the better programs — and yes, for me, that’s ABS-CBN as of the moment.

It’s been a while since ABS-CBN claimed that they’re the leading broadcast network. That’s because, for the longest time, AGB-Nielsen could only measure the viewership in Mega Manila (Metro Manila and the suburbs). And GMA7 consistently is the top network in this area until now. And then came the nationwide urban ratings — the NUTAM (National Urban Television Audience Measurement). And that’s a different story.

In the latest official national ratings, ABS-CBN has a very comfortable lead (12%; ABS-CBN 47%, GMA7 35%) proving that it is the most-watched TV channel nationwide. Fifteen in the Top 20 programs are also kapamilya shows. To see what Vice-President Charo Santos-Concio had to say about this, click this link.

Anyway, here’s the Top 20 Programs according to NUTAM (March 4-17, 2007):

1. Sana Maulit Muli (ABS-CBN) 34.9%
2. Maging Sino Ka Man (ABS-CBN) 33.5%
3. TV Patrol World (ABS-CBN) 31.6%
4. Komiks: The Adventures of Pedro Penduko (ABS-CBN) 30.4%
5. XXX (ABS-CBN) 29.4%
6. Maria Flordeluna (ABS-CBN) 28.9%
7. Asian Treasures (GMA) 28.5%
8. Super Twins (GMA) 28.2%
9. Rated K: Handa na ba Kayo? (ABS-CBN) 27.8%
10. Wowowee (ABS-CBN) 27.7%
11. John en Shirley (ABS-CBN) 27.6%
12. Bakekang (GMA) 26.8%
13. Pinoy Big Brother: Saturday (ABS-CBN) 25.8%
14. Maala-ala Mo Kaya (ABS-CBN) 25.4%
15. Pinoy Big Brother: Sunday (ABS-CBN) 25.3%
16. Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (GMA) 24.9%
17. Pinoy Big Brother: Weekdays (ABS-CBN) 24.5%
18. Goin’ Bulilit (ABS-CBN) 24.2%
19. Sharon (ABS-CBN) 23.5%
20. 24 Oras (GMA) 22.8%

So there. The only things that make me happy in this list are PBB and Maging Sino Ka Man.

B’t X (1997)

Posted on by Yoshke in Anime, TV |

Status: Delighted
Music: The Sweet Escape
 - Gwen Stefani feat Akon

Walking along the series of (pirated) DVD stores in Shaw Boulevard, I spotted something I’d been looking for since the advent of anime series in DVD — B’t X. Ten years ago, B’t X was shown in the Philippines on ABS-CBN. Actually, at first, I wasn’t sure if I would want to watch it since it replaced my favourite anime show then, Zenki. But not long after its pilot episode I began being hooked and couldn’t help but wait for 4pm in front of the television. It was 1997. Ten years later, only a few people that I know remember this series. It was sad because I really think that B’t X is one incredible anime program.

To refresh your memory, B’t X tells the story of Teppei whose brother, Professor Kotaro Takamiya, is abducted and brought to the centre of the Machine Empire. Teppei then accidentally revives the legendary winged-horse B’t (intelligent robots for battles) X. Ergo, B’t X. Every warrior in the Machine Empire has a B’t dedicated to serving its master. Teppei travels towards the centre of the area to save his brother. But along the way, he meets the Four Great Knights, and so many other characters and their B’ts. Soon, Teppei realises that his mission is not just to save his brother from certain death, but to save the world from Rafael / Rafaello, the ultimate B’t created by the Emperor that becomes so dangerous it could destroy the planet if not killed soon.

I was so excited when I went home and began my B’t X marathon. Suddenly, childhood memories started to be awakened. When I was young, more than Teppei, I admired the Four Great Knights.

  1. Fou Lafini of the South. A priest. B’t Je t’aime, phoenix. Secretly in love with Karen. Plays the violin really well. His bow is his ultimate weapon.
  2. Ron of the West. A passionate warrior. B’t Raido, dragon. Very loyal to the Emperor. Excellent martial artist. His ultimate weapon is his lance.
  3. Dr. Hokuto of the North. The Master Doctor. B’t Max, turtle, the largest and strongest B’t in the empire. A dignified and dedicated physician, who ironically is also terribly sick.
  4. Karen of the East. The traitor to the Empire. B’t X, a pegasus. Discovered that B’t Rafael is not created to unite the world but to destroy it. A fugitive. While in hiding, she trained Teppei, who saved her life, to become a very good warrior.

When I was watching this a decade ago, I was really afraid of the two young villains — two kids, in fact: Misha and Nasha. They were the emperor’s representatives and are always in charge.

Until now, B’t X remains to be one of my all-time favourite anime [ along with Fullmetal Alchemist, Picture courtesy of: all4seiya.com

Dahil sa ABC, Iba Tayo (Part 2)

Posted on by Yoshke in Rants, TV |

See this post first. In fairness to ABC5, they already changed their tagline for American Idol. God must have heard all my prayers for them to see the light. They did see the light but not that clear, though. This was their previous tagline:

Find out who will America choose next!

I told my friends, who used to work for ABC5 and they just laughed at this tagline. Now, their tagline is:

Find out who will be the next American Idol!

Nyahahahaha. Why can’t they figure out that there’s a syntax error? If I showed this to some Grade School students, they would easily detect what is wrong. But I guess, some people never learn.

Gee-Ann is our Girl!

Time of the Season – Blake Lewis

When I visited my hometown Lemery in Batangas last week, I was flabbergasted by the immense support that people were giving nominated Pinoy Big Brother season 2 housemate Gee-Ann Abrahan. When I was walking down the main street, I couldn’t help but notice the huge banner in front of our town’s premier hospital. And I thought it was just the banners. When I went shopping in a local department store and bought some groceries in a supermarket, there were flyers that said “Text BB G-ANN and send to 2331 or 231″ in every counter.

I didn’t know if Gee-Ann or any of her parents is from Lemery or any neighbouring municipalities, but the support for Gee-Ann in our town is incredible. And I don’t have any problem with that actually because she’s one of my favourite housemates. This week, Gee-Ann is nominated for eviction again but I don’t think she’d get the boot. The support that she gets from the people in my town alone is too strong.

And I heard Gee-Ann last Monday extending her gratitude to the Batanguenos. Good thing.

What a Beautiful Dawn!

What Hurts the Most – Rascal Flatts

Have you noticed that Dawn Zulueta rapidly becomes one of the most sought-after product endorsers in the country? Waah! I’ve been seeing a lot of her lately. Pantene. PH Care. Myra 300 E. Marie France. Wow. This woman must be a lot richer now. I just can’t get enough of Dawn. She looks so amazing. The perfect face of a happy woman. She’s so refreshing in spite of her age. In fact, she’s never been this beautiful. (No, I’m not promoting her age-defying shampoo.) But really, don’t you just love her?

I saw her in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya with Maja Salvador. And I was as surprised to see her getting more and more effective and powerful as an actress.

And yep, for me, she’s a Certified Hottie.
