Pinoy Ako - Cebalo *puke*

I will rant because I can’t think of anything better to do. Hehe. No, but I will just talk about Pinoy Big Brother Season 2.

Ezekiel Dimaguila — This Aussie hunk is one of the better housemates inside the house. He’s childlike and childish at the same time. It’s just that sometimes he unintentionally pisses other housemates off. His being-too-playful might work against him.

Wendy Valdez — I don’t hate her. But I don’t love her, either. She’s pretty, that’s all. I actually don’t care about her.

Nel Rapiz — I don’t think he’s gay. It’s just that some guys really just use gay lingo, and it’s freakin’ normal. No gay person who pretends to be straight will use gay lingo — it would really feel uncomfortable. Take it from me. Haha. And when he says that his male housemates are handsome, I think it’s just a simple act of self-depracation because we all know he isn’t.

Saicy Aguila— I don’t know if it’s just me or she really is a wallflower. I seldom notice her.

Gee-Ann Abrahan — Gee-Ann is the best among the female housemates. She might be filthy rich but she’s NO Say Alonzo. She’s not maarte. And I really, really like her. And yes, just like everybody else, I find her my-dolls-are-my-children-thing a little weird.

Mickey Perz — This half-Austrian is the best person inside the house. Enough said.

Robert Woods — This John Prats (with beard) look-alike is also one of the better housemates. He’s nice. He gets along with people well. He’s not bossy. He’s not lazy. He’s not nosy. He’s nice. That’s all he is.

Beatriz Saw — I like her but I don’t know why.

Kian Kazemi — I SOOO HATE THIS GUY!!! He is sooo… (what’s the word? Hmmm…) EPAL! I don’t know why but the mere sight of him makes me want to press the remote, and watch Cartoon Network instead.

Jasmin Engracia — I agree with Wendy that she’s majadera. She has this take-charge attitude like she’s the queen of the house, and that she knows everything. Considering she’s just new inside, she’ll get the ire of every housemate. No wonder Robert, the oh-so-gentle-and-kind Robert, was pissed. And so was Wendy, the original bossy queen. Haha.

Bruce Quebral — Go UP!!! Hehehe. I think he will really do great inside. Good character, and good… body.

~~~
And oh, can I just add that CEBALO’s version of Pinoy Ako sucks big time?! Really! Especially Yvan’s part. He sounds like April Boy Regino! Puhleez.
Trying to Get the Feeling Again - Christian Bautista
Hoorah! Finally, I’ll enjoy being a couch-potato again. My top 3 favourite reality shows are back! And there’s nothing that can get between my eyes and the television set or whoever stupid enough to do that will experience my wrath.
AMERICAN IDOL
Let’s start with the most popular of all, American Idol. I find it really, really strange that in their first studio episode, I found myself almost always agreeing with Simon Cowell. Gina Glocksen did not quite hit the highest note in her All By Myself performance — agreed. Melinda Doolittle is somebody with huge talent and very little arrogance — agreed. Lakisha Jones was in a different league — agreed. Blake Lewis’s performance was the first to sound so contemporary, and that’s a good thing. The first part of Phil Stacey’s performance was terrible, but the ending was, oh, great. I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing was way too big for Antonella Barba.
But of course there were things that I didn’t agree to. For example, when he said that AJ Tabaldo delivered a theme-park performance. That was sooo not true. I like AJ not because he’s a Filipino-American, but because he was one of the few guys who really did an amazing job that night.
I also like Chris Richardson but I really think that his being-a-Justin-Timberlake-clone will be a big, big problem. It’s not that it’s his fault, though. We can’t do anything about it if he really looks and sounds like Justin. We can’t blame him for being born, or having given a break, much later than the former NSync member. Anyway, I still like him.
I used to dislike Blake Lewis. I thought that all this guy could do was beatbox. But singing Somewhere Only We Know? Wow. Not that I just really like Keane, but I liked the simplicity of his performance, and kinda liked his voice, too. He’s now one of my favourites.
Among the girls, Jordin Sparks, Sabrina Sloan, Melinda Doolittle, and Lakisha Jones are my faves.
~~~

THE AMAZING RACE ALL-STARS
The Amazing Race is back. This time, it’s much more exciting as familiar faces begin to compete for one million dollars. Rob and Amber emerged triumphant in the pilot episode but will they sustain the momentum? Hmmm… I don’t hate Rob and Amber, but they’re not the ones I like either. My top two teams are Oswald and Danny, and Dustin and Kandice.

PINOY BIG BROTHER SEASON 2
I stayed up late last night just to catch the launch of Pinoy Big Brother Season 2. But heck, I was deeply disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the entire “military” idea, and the hosts, and the presentation. However, they only revealed six of 12 or 14 housemates! What’s up with that?!? They said the others will enter Big Brother’s house one by one sooner or later. So much for fair play! The first six contestants might already form a strong bond inside before the other housemates could even penetrate the circle. Hmmm. (Andre has just told me that they might be doing that for the ratings — so that viewers would still have something, some people, to look forward to. Hmmm. Makes perfect sense.)

Anyway, what do I think about the six housemates? I like the commercial chick — damn I forgot her name, hehe. She’s really beautiful. And who else inside the house is beautiful? You got it — the Aussie guy, Ezekiel. Yep, my sister who usually doesn’t express her hidden lustful thoughts gasped for air last night telling me he was hot. Whew. And he really is.

The Swiss guy will give us something to glue our eyes on the screen to/for. Not because he looks good (well, he does) but because he somehow makes us want to follow how he would interact with the other housemates given the fact that he cannot speak Tagalog or English. The poor guy only speaks and understands German. Now that’s interesting.

Anyway, let’s just see if they would capture our hearts while inside the famous house.

My Cable Provider is sooooo European

Here’s the thing. Bumming around is not that good after all — especially when a certified couch potato like me gradually grows tired of staying in front of the television just because my freakin’ cable provider gives me a really weird channel selection. There are more trashy channels than the ones I find useful and entertaining. And they change channel assignments without giving us any notice at all. In the middle of the movie, say I’m watching HBO, the channels would switch, and I have to find that channel again.

If watching National Gerographic and Discovery channels is the top sign of being a geek, then wow, I am definitely one. There are a lot of shows that I really make an effort trying to catch. But I’m terribly pissed. For some reason I am yet to enquire about, my cable provider seems to be stationed in another continent. Why? Because what we have is Discovery Channel Europe and National Geographic Channel Europe.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve been wanting to live in Europe from the very moment I learned I don’t. But for a person who grew up with these channels’ Asian counterparts, adjusting to the European versions is a really difficult thing. For starters, all Discovery Europe talks about are engineering, technology, industries, and forensics — stuff that their Asian counterpart also has. But Discovery Asia offers more. They also feature culture, ecology, and other topics that awaken human interest. I’m tired of learning about how incredible the Rotterdam port is, or how massive European ships are, or how speedy German cars can get, or their theories on how the primitive Brits built the Stonehenge. I used to be really amazed, but after a while, I might just want my cable provider to suddenly switch channels.

What infuriates me more is the time gap. Unlike Discovery Asia and NG Asia, the channels we have show European schedules. For example, I want to catch a certain show, I always need to add five or six hours more to the time they show on the screen, because, of course, they’re in Europe. And I never get used to it!

Moreover, their primetime shows (logically, their best shows) I can watch at around 2 or 3 in the morning. Damn.

I better stop complaining and call my cable provider now.

Making Love Out of Nothing at All - Sarah Geronimo

This was Sarah Geronimo’s breathtaking performance on ASAP ‘07 two weeks ago that received a standing ovation and gave me the longest series of goosebumps I’ve experienced since I watched the film The Devil Wears Prada. I never really liked Air Supply’s Making Love Out of Nothing at All until Sarah came up with this very powerful version. This clip has been very popular in cyberspace, causing people to compare this rendition to Carrie Underwood’s a couple of years back for American Idol Season 4. Anyway, I actually don’t care because I like their renditions, and I love them both. All I am sure of is, this performance is unforgettable.

So… what do you think?

ADDICTS-TURNED-MODELS -TURNED-MILLIONAIRES
After 10 seasons, finally, my favourite team wins The Amazing Race. Since the very first season of TAR, the team that I pick as my fave always loses. I know this post is a little late, but what the hell. Congrats Tyler Denk and James Branaman! Go Team Addict! *cough* Team Ex-Addict! You deserve it! (As if they’re gonna read this. Haha.) And oh James, uhm, I love you. Haha.

And because they won’t be a part of The Amazing Race 11: All Stars, I’m rooting for the Beauty Queens this time. Competitiveness to the next level, blondes! Go Dustin and Kandice! Break the stereotype!

DREAMERS-TURNED-SCHOLARS-TURNED-SINGERS
Also, congratulations to Yeng Constantino for being Pinoy Dream Academy’s first Grand Star Dreamer. She’s been my favourite from the very start of the competiion. She and Jay-R Siaboc. So when only the two of them were left standing, I was happy. Heads or tails, I’d be content. Good luck, Yeng and Jay-R. Hope you last.

TEEN STARS-TURNED-ACTORS
And now that The Amazing Race 10 and Pinoy Dream Academy are over, there’s only one TV addiction left for me and that’s Maging Sino Ka Man. I’ve never been this crazy over a local drama series since Kaytagal Kang Hinintay and Pangako Sa ‘Yo. Nice story. Perfect casting. Wonderful script. Excellent direction. Good job, ABS-CBN! I just hope it rates better. It’s performance as far as the figures are concerned are not that impressive. But who cares about numbers, right? Especially when you get real quality entertainment.

We all know that Bea and John Lloyd are really good actors, so it shouldn’t come to you as a surprise. But Anne Curtis is a real shocker here. I mean, I’ve seen her evolve from doing sexy-but-stupid roles before to Hiram’s Stephanie. I thought, that was all she could give. But Anne’s acting in this soap opera is a standout. Wow. She’s soo good I’ve cried several times in front of the television. She’s bound to be one of the most important actresses of her generation (of course, along with Bea Alonzo, Maja Salvador, and Angelica Panganiban).

Not to mention they’re all BEAUTIFUL in that series.

It’s not a secret that I’m a big Pinoy Dream Academy fan. To be honest, before the show was launched, I was not that interested. I thought it would just be second-rate Philippine Idol. I was really excited about PI that time, and was refusing to watch a single episode of PDA. But when Philippine Idol started eliminating their good contestants one by one (not to mention that Ken and Miguel still manage to stay in the competition), I swore not to use the word excited and Philippine Idol in the same sentence again. (Oops, I guess I did it again.) Philippine idol becomes more and more disappointing as the show “progresses.” Disappointing is actually an understatement.

When I switched to Pinoy Dream Academy, I was satisfied. At least, in this contest, the weak ones get booted out. And I realised there are a lot of talented people here like Joan, Yeng, Ronnie, Irish and so on. Too bad Iya said goodbye so early.

I’m also a Peyups.com “resident,” although I seldom post comments. And one of the fastest growing threads there is the PDA thread. And right now, they’re just having fun, err… should I say, making fun of the PDA scholars. The topic: PDA scholars’ look-alikes. And here are some samples.

And I saved the best for last…

Thanks to all the people in the Peyups.com community. Sorry I didn’t have the chance to tell you that I would post your posts on this blog. And sorry to all RJ and Iya fans. I love them both but this is just for fun. Au revoir!

Dear Santa Claus

    I've been good this year!
    I quit smoking. I don't steal chocolates from my nephew anymore. And when I'm pissed at someone, I say "Please fuck off." Emphasis on "please." And I have stopped resetting my housemate's alarm clock every night when he's asleep so I could be the first to use the bathroom in the morning.

    You see, I'm a changed man now. And I would really appreciate it if you would give me any of the following for Christmas.

  • > a black tuxedo-cut jacket
  • > a hoodie
  • > a pair of leather shoes
  • > a pair of tennis rackets
  • > a pair of khaki or gray pants
  • > long-sleeved polos, slimfit
  • > a small sling bag
  • > a digital SLR camera, hahaha
  • > yogurt, yogurt, yogurt

  • If this is too hard for you, please guilt any of my relatives, friends, exes, admirers, fans or anyone reading this blog here and abroad to buy them for me. Haha. And I will love you forever.

    Thank you, Santa. You're the best figment of imagination there is.
