This is the fifth installment of my list of 100 love songs that I am completely in love with. This batch includes singles from number 31-45. Again, this is a personal list — songs that have touched me in many ways. (Click on the title of the song to listen  to it.)

45. Ricky Martin feat Christina Aguilera – Nobody Wants to Be Lonely

I worship Christina Aguilera but most of her songs that I totally adore are not love songs — Beautiful, for example, is very inspirational but is not a love song. Nevertheless, her collaboration with Ricky Martin is a classic for me. It reminds me of my high school days and this song just speaks for many people who have been longing for someone, fearing the idea of being alone.

Time is precious and it’s slipping away
and I’ve been waiting for you all of my life
Nobody wants to be lonely so why
Why don’t you let me love you

Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera were huge superstars at the time and although it did not enjoy extreme success in the US (peaking somewhere around number 13 in US Billboard), I believe it was very successful in the rest of the world.

I also love most of Ricky Martin’s ballads such as She’s All I Ever Had, I Count the Minutes and his work with Meja, Private Emotion.

44. Third Eye Blind – Deep Inside of You

When I heard this song for the first time, I fell in love with it almost instantly. It’s just sensual, romantic and heart-breaking at the same time. I know the kind of sexual reference was intentional, but you can read it in a purely romantic way. The song encapsulates the feeling of being part of a relationship that has just ended but you invested so much emotions that when the relationship died, a part of you died with it.

One thing that I really really really love about Mariah Carey is that she knows how to tell a story using her instruments — the voice and the pen. Mariah is not just an extraordinary vocalist, she’s also a good songwriter. Her songs are very believable — words unpretentious and voice soulful.

You called yesterday to basically say
That you care for me but that you’re just not in love
Immediately I pretended to be feeling similarly

That’s unyielding and sacred to me

I’m sure many of us have loved or cared so much about someone but sadly the feeling is one-way. And when they say that to us upfront, we pretend it doesn’t matter. But the truth is, we are devastated. That’s what Breakdown is all about. It’s just a beautiful song.

42. Avril Lavigne – My Happy Ending

I’m not really an Avril Lavigne fan but I love this song. It’s just so painful and angry and raw. It’s one of those songs that you can feel the singer angry at the person she’s singing about, the situation and herself. Many of us have been through something like this — building our dreams and life around someone who turns out to be building lies around you.

Supposed to be,

Now all the memories so close to me just fade away,

41. Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand – Tell Him

Talk about pain! What could be worse than telling the person he replaced you with just how to love him. The song does not just tell you how much the singer is hurting, it also gives a clear picture of how much she loves him yet she is considering acceptance that her time with him is over and he’s not hers anymore.

Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand did a great job here.

40. Lara Fabian – Broken Vow

I have to admit that Meteor Garden introduced this song to me and I was sold right then. This song became so popular in the Philippines and made Lara Fabian a little bit famous. But I think there’s definitely more to it that being just the theme song of Meteor Garden.

39. Journey – Open Arms

What I really love about this song is it’s very cinematic. Every time I hear it, an image appears in my head, something like a scene from a black and white movie. It’s very visual. But more than that, I love the message of the song. Sometimes, we let go of that person we love just because we failed to work it out but if we’re lucky, they’d come back and we just have to prove to them that we’re worth a second chance.

I love Journey but this one of the rare instances when I love the remake better than the original. I just adore Mariah Carey’s version so much. Or maybe that’s just the gay guy in me talking.

38. Dolly Parton – Here You Come Again

Have you ever been through a stage wherein you try to get over someone, almost about to let go, but whenever they come around, we just fall right back in love with him? Aaaargh! That’s what’s funny about this song and that’s what makes it so sad, too. It’s one of those songs that you just hate because it describes exactly how you feel!

American Idol finalists Clay Aiken and Carly Smithson did a rendition of this song. Carly’s is my favorite.

37. The Fray – Never Say Never

Ah, The Fray. I love them. And this song, too. Never Say Never describes a love between two individual who are too afraid to cross the line. I’m sure a gazillion people can relate to it!

36. Ogie Alcasid – Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang

I must admit that it wasn’t until Freestyle and Pops Fernandez did a rendition of this song that I learned to love it. This song is also something that many of us can relate to — especially the married ones who have met their true love a little bit too late.

35. Shania Twain – You’ve Got A Way

I love Shania Twain to bits! I’m totally into her Come on Over album. Actually, most of my favorite songs of hers are off of that record — You’re Still the One, From this Moment On, That Don’t Impress Me Much. But You’ve Got a Way is the one that truly moved me. It’s very simple, like most great love songs, yet it makes me smile every time I hear it regardless of who sings.

34. James Morrison – You Give Me Something

Getting more than you bargained for — that’s the theme of the next love song on this list. James Morrison has always mesmerized me and this is probably my favorite from him. (The truth is, I loooove most of his songs.)

Have you ever had that feeling of falling for someone you never wanted or imagined you’d fall for? And the more you spend time with that person, the more you find yourself wanting for more? And so you’re afraid because it was never planned or expected?

33. Snow Patrol – Crack the Shutters

Snow Patrol is my new Coldplay! (And Coldplay is my new U2! Haha.) I just love them and their songs from their first album — Signal Fire, Chasing Cars, Hands Open. Their second album, A Hundred Million Suns, isn’t half-bad either; there are so much good stuff in that record. But the one song that caught my attention easily was Crack the Shutters — it’s just damn romantic. Especially this part:

32. Damien Rice – Delicate

This is the second Damien Rice song on this list, the other one is Volcano. (I worship him like I’m this close building an altar in honor of him. LOL.)

I first heard this song on the TV series Lost (Season 1).  The track was used in the show so beautifully that I really tried to memorize the lyrics at the time so I could google it later. When I googled  the lyrics, I was not surprised to find out it was Damien Rice.

There are many ways to read this song but mine would be this. Seems like the two characters in the song are having a secret affair and one of them is trying to deny that he/she has feelings for the other. It may also be about two people in a “confused” state of a relationship — trying to make something out of what they have, which they are still trying to figure out. Great song.

31. D’ Sound – Tattooed on my Mind

This song is love. I super heart this song. Every time I hear it, it’s like the world stops and it’s just me and the song. Perhaps one reason for this great love for this song is because it describes PERFECTLY how I feel and what I do when I’m in love and just about to try to start a relationship.

I guess one of the most remarkable things about this new show is the fact that this is the first team-up of Angel Locsin, who was nominated in the International Emmy for her performance in Lobo, and John Lloyd Cruz, who will be doing fantasy for the first time. Here’s trailer fresh from the oven:

Directed by Chito Rono and Jerry Lopez Sineneng, IMORTAL stars Maricar Reyes, Chin chin Gutierrez, Jake Roxas, Gladys Reyes, Jaime Fabregas and Rico Blanco.

Aside from the fact that I love Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz to bits, I am a big Lobo fan. Lobo is one of the three ABS-CBN teleseryes in recent memory that, to me, are phenomenal in terms of quality and impact — the other two being Maging Sino Ka Man and Tayong Dalawa.

Like I said before, I particularly liked that Lobo did not have many subplots; it really had a focus on the story of Lyka and Noah, explaining why Lobo’s cast was not big in number. To refresh your memory, this is Lobo’s trailer.

IMORTAL’s launch date has not been announced still but judging from the release of teasers, it should be any time soon.

I love taking the bus at night, especially when the roads are almost empty. That’s why one time, after a night of shopping and conversations over coffee with my friends at Trinoma, it was my default choice to take the bus.

I made my way out of the mall through the Mindanao Exit, walked along North Avenue, crossed the overpass to EDSA and waited for a bus. After two sticks of cigarettes, one finally stopped. I hopped in and chose a seat among completely vacant rows at the back of the bus.

In that part of the bus, there were just me and a couple — a man and a woman. They were seated opposite me. They seemed like they didn’t know each other as they were occupying the end seats and there was one seat between them. Seated closer to the aisle was a man. The man looked like a laborer, a construction worker. He was dirty and was carrying a big bulky black bag, which was on the floor. He was thin and he looked like a drug addict. I even joked in my head and though that this was the type of man you would expect to just stand and declare a hold-up. I laughed secretly and scolded myself, “God, Yoshke, you’re being too judgmental. Not because he looks like that doesn’t mean he’s gonna do something bad. Bad, bad Yoshke. Stop it.”

Seated by the window was a woman, perhaps in her mid or late 20s. She looked middle class and a bit pretty. I realized I was gay so I turned my gaze away from her, put my earphones on, and looked outside.

That’s why I love taking the bus — plenty of time to listen to music, think about my life, come up with concepts for my screenplays. A couple of songs had finished playing and I was still looking outside. When I saw the billboard-covered GMA7 building, I looked around me and found that the two people sitting opposite me were so close to each other, they actually touched. The man had his left arm wrapped around the woman’s waist. The woman’s both hands were on the “back rest” of the seat in front of her. The big bulky black bag was now rested on the man’s lap but it was so long that it also covered the woman’s lap.

The first thing that came to my mind was, “Wow, I didn’t realize they were together. They so don’t deserve each other. She’s too pretty for him. That must be true love.”

I started stealing glances and I noticed the man kissing the woman’s shoulder and then neck. I thought, “PDA? At the bus? Really?” Only then that I noticed that there wasn’t any sweetness between them. And then I realized where the the man’s other arm was — hidden under the bag. The woman showed no emotion. She didn’t look happy but she didn’t look afraid either. She was just looking ahead. She wasn’t looking at the man or anyone at all. I didn’t know what to make out of it. I remember thinking, Is she being mugged? Is she being harassed? Why doesn’t she look scared? Why won’t she give me a silent signal she’s being violated right there?

It felt wrong. It just felt wrong. I didn’t know what was going on. I decided to look away, look outside. But the window glass was showing me a pale reflection of the two. In the reflection, I saw the woman move a little but the man’s embrace became tighter. I was about to steal another glance when the man looked at me. I pretended I would just stand up and move to a seat closer to the front, to the door.

While I was walking away, I saw the woman look at me. Still, I couldn’t see any emotion. But something was telling me she needed help. I sat just behind the driver, beside another stranger. I didn’t know what to do. Should I tell anyone? Should I tell the conductor? Will it make a difference? If I tell anyone, the man will easily identify me and he’s gonna know where I live, I mean come on, our building is just along EDSA.

And then it was my stop. Slowly, I stood up. I wanted to tell the conductor. I looked at the man and the woman at the back, both of them were looking at me. I looked at the conductor. The conductor gave me a look. His expression was weird. It was as if he was telling me he knew what was happening. It was like things were in slow-motion that time.

I hopped out of the bus and just stood there, shocked. I kept on mumbling to myself, “God, I didn’t do anything. I didn’t say anything.”

I just froze there, not knowing what to do, that I wasn’t even able to get its plate number.

Christina Aguilera’s fourth studio album Bionic was not well-received and there’s just too much undeserved negativity going on around her so I’m starting to fear that Burlesque might even worsen the situation. By the way, here’s the trailer:

After watching the trailer, I had this feeling that it would be a small town girl living in a lonely world going to Hollywood to wear almost nothing on stage cliche. But like what a friend told me, many musicals today are formulaic — Moulin Rouge is cliche as hell, Dreamgirls is freakin’ cliche, even Glee is cliche. What will make  or break this movie is the execution.

On the bright side, there are so many other things to look forward to! Christina Aguilera won’t be alone as Cher (yes, she’s still alive) will return to the big screen as one of the leads in this movie. Cher plays Tess, the owner of the Burlesque club that Ali (Christina Aguilera) is working at.

Stanley Tucci will also be in the film. Cam Gigandet, Eric Dane and Kristen Bell, too!

The other night, I downloaded and read the script to Burlesque and I was relieved. The script was funny and entertaining. Yes, the story may be a bit predictable but I know the performances would be EPIC. Especially that they have just released a somewhat raw clip from the movie showing Christina nailing the Etta James classic Something’s Gotta Hold on Me. Here’s the clip.

And here’s hoping that Burlesque would be a success both critically and in the box office.

Last week, one of my friends posted this video on Facebook and it’s just so hilarious that I want to share this with all of you. When I saw that it was 7 minutes long, I thought I would not be able to finish watching it but these two guys are just so fun to watch.

This is a video of Turock (Tory) and Jason who have been running a taxi in Isabela, Philippines over the past year. They are Americans who lost their jobs in their homeland and decided to move to the Philippines and start a new job — taxi service. This video was shot last year and it is a short documentation of their very first run.

Their taxi runs from Isabela all the way to Cagayan. According to the description of this YouTube video: Their route starts in Santiago but makes stops in Alicia, Cauayan, Ilagan and Tuguegarao. And they only charge P30 per trip.

So, here’s the video:

I’m not sure whether what made me watch the whole thing was curiosity or lust. Aren’t they cute? And lovely? And funny? I’m in love. Haha.

I think their taxi business has already taken off as it’s been a year and they’re still on the road. So somehow, they managed to . But if I’m wrong and they still need jobs, they should come to Manila and I’ll give them the best jobs they’ll ever gonna get. LOL.

Midnight. I had been studying for hours with a friend at Gloria Jean’s Café in Tomas Morato when I felt hungry so we decided to move to a Chinese fast food restaurant across the street for a few minutes. I was smilingly greeted by a female cashier who was ready to take my order. There was something weird about her smile, I could tell. It was like she was tired or unhappy.

Yoshke: Pork Chao Fan with pork siomai, pork tofu, and large pineapple juice. Dine in.
Cashier: OK sir, that’s pork chao fan with pork siomai, pork tofu, and pineapple juice large for dine in.
Yoshke: Yep!
Cashier: Sir, just to confirm, it’s pork siomai, right?
Yoshke: Yes, pork. Right.

So she started pressing away and then she fetched my order. I looked at my siomai and found them darker than usual.

Yoshke: Miss, I think this is beef siomai. I wanted my siomai pork.
Cashier: Oh, sorry sir. Yeah, you said pork siomai, sorry.

And then she just stood there for several seconds, perhaps thinking of what to do next. She then turned to me and asked:

Cashier: Sir, wouldn’t you like beef siomai, instead? I already punched it by mistake…
Yoshke: No, I want pork siomai.
Cashier: Sir, please. They taste exactly the same, anyway.
Yoshke: Miss, I don’t eat beef siomai. I don’t eat beef at all. I wish I did so you wouldn’t need to have my order voided but I really don’t eat beef. Since childhood.
Cashier: Sir, perhaps your friend is going to order beef siomai.

So I asked my friend. She had no interest in my beef siomai because she was on a vegetarian diet that night and she would just order black gulaman.

Cashier: Sir, maybe you could just add a pork siomai to your order?
Yoshke: And what would I do to my beef siomai? Throw them away?
Cashier: Sir, please. They taste exactly the same…

I was completely irritated but I was in good mood that night so I just pushed for my real pork order. But I could tell she was genuinely afraid. I felt sorry for her. I could see fear in her eyes. It could be his nth time she would call to her manager to void an order, and perhaps she had been warned for the nth time, too. Her eyes were pleading. It was like as if her life depended on my order. I even imagined a story that perhaps she would lose her job and she couldn’t afford to because her mother was sick and she needed medicine or whatever. There was something in her eyes that was really, really urging me to just give in. It was really uncomfortable. But I was hungry and I wanted my pork siomai.

She then let go of a long sigh and called her manager to have the order voided. The manager gave her a sharp look and the counter girl apologized to the manager countless times in the brief moment they were fixing my order. I swear she was even teary-eyed. The manager left but she was still looking at her in a very disappointed manner. The cashier faced me and said, “Sir, sorry po ha.”

I apologized, too. “Miss, I wish I eat beef but I just don’t.”

I turned around and found a table, sat and just looked at her. I don’t know but I knew, I was sure I did a terrible thing to her. I just felt incredibly guilty. I just wanted my siomai pork, not beef.

It’s been almost two years since that incident and I’m still wondering what happened to that cashier girl. I wonder if she lost her job. And if she did, did her life depend on it? I eat beef siomai now. I had to learn it for my career. I wished I learned earlier.

SYNOPSIS: A day in a life of two brothers, Mario and Luigi, two years after an accident that killed their father and put their mother in a coma. Torn by guilt and hatred, the brothers are struggling to make ends meet as a lot has changed since the accident — their finances, their dreams and even their relationship seem to go down the drain. But it is on this day, of all days, that one decision will change everything… hopefully for the better.

Again, as early as now I’d like to apologize for the poor quality of the sound. We already fixed it before but we kinda lost the final cut of this film so this is the last saved file. Not that sloth got the better of us but damn, fixing it again would be too tedious so here, just watch it with your earphones on if you wanna understand. No, seriously, you’ll need earphones. LOL.

Usually, that is.

Sometimes, I question it. Yeah, especially at rare times when I’m orchestrating my plans for revenge retributon justice. Or at rare times I sin in the name of equality or fairness. Or at times I just want to make fun of something… or someone. Or when I scream “Bitch” at a stranger in a very public place. But that’s about it, nothing harmful. Haha.

But there have been a few occasions where I doubted my goodness. I mean really doubted it. They say we all have an evil bone inside of us. And now, the following few posts are some incidents in which I felt that it was the only bone I have left. Here’s the first installment of the “Yoshke is Evil” series.

THE GUARD IN OUR BUILDING

I moved in to my condo building more than a year ago. In my first few months living here, there was a particular guard stationed at the entrance of our tower always blocked me from entering, asking for my ID and the my unit number. In the first several days, I let it go. After all, it was normal. But then, months into my contract, he still continued doing it and it had become the most annoying thing.

One night, I was supposed to meet Shy Guy. It was our seventh monthsary and I asked him to accompany me to Boni High Street for I needed to claim something important and work-related. We decided to meet at Shangri-La Plaza and then proceed to the Fort. The funny thing was, I forgot my claim stub at home and I wouldn’t get the document I needed without it. It ruined my mood. I had to go back to our unit to get it.

Pissed for the time and energy wasted, I went back only to be blocked by the same guard. So I snapped. I yelled at him, as in really yelled at him. “OH MY GOD!!! HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR MY ID AND MY ROOM NUMBER?!?!?! I’VE BEEN LIVING HERE FOR THREE MONTHS NOW AND EVERY FREAKIN’ DAY FOR THREE MONTHS YOU’D ASK FOR THEM!!! HOW LONG SHOULD IT TAKE YOU TO RECOGNIZE MY PIMPLY FACE?!? I MEAN, ISN’T THAT PART OF YOUR JOB? REMEMBER FACES? SO YOU WOULDN’T HAVE TO INCONVENIENCE TENANTS EVERY SINGLE TIME WE COME HOME?!?! It was the last time I was asked for my ID. That guard treated me politely since then. But every time I see him, I feel guilty for the things I said to him in front of many people. I shouldn’t have yelled at him. I shouldn’t have embarrassed him. I shouldn’t have threatened him.

I felt incredibly guilty that whenever I see him, I greet him with a smile.

10. HINDI PORKET MAY DSLR KA, PHOTOGRAPHER KA NA!

WINNER!!! Haha. This was probably the first Pinoy statement fan page that I came across with. Well, it’s true but I don’t really see anything wrong with it. I love that Filipinos now love photography with a passion. It’s better that most of us is into the arts than drugs. But yeah, it’s funny.

9. HINDI PORKE TAGA-ABS-CBN AKO, PWEDE KITANG IPASOK SA SHOWTIME, WOWOWEE AT ASAP!

I find this funny because I have a lot of friends working with ABS-CBN and this is usually what they complain about. LOL. I spend most of my internship days at ABS-CBN (Star Cinema to be specific) and yeah, when people hear you work for ABS, they ask you for these things. I guess it happens to GMA7 employees, too.

8. Nag-Group Message ka pa isa lang naman gusto mong magreply

Lahat ng guilty, taas ang kamay! Yun lang. Hahahahahahaha. Syet, ang haba nung tawa ko.

Meron pang kunyari eh group message pero isang tao lang naman yung tinext. O kaya eh kunyari wrong send pero sinadya naman talaga. O kaya kunyari may school-related na itatanong gusto lang naman lumandi. UMAMIN NA!!!

7. Ang Hilig Mo Sa Gwapo/Maganda… Ang PANGIT Mo Naman!

Eh ano naman, walang pakialamanan. Haha. Tinamaan daw? LOL

6. “INIISIP KO PA LANG TINATAMAD NA KO”

Ay, totoo yan. Minsan talaga ‘no? May mga araw na tamad na tamad ka lang. Yung kahit andami mong gagawin, hindi ka makapagsimula kasi iniisip mo pa lang, pagod ka na. Pero ang nakakatawa, pag nagawa mo sya, andali lang pala.

5. NAKAKAINIS YUNG SUPER KWENTO KA SABAY REPLY LANG SAYO : K, OKAY , HAHA

Yung nanay ko, ganito. Pati yung ate ko. Hindi ko alam kung hindi lang talaga ako mahal ng pamilya ko or nahihirapan lang sila magtype sa keypad nila. Hahaha.

4. OO !! (kahit di naintindihan yung sinasabi)

Matapos lang ang usapan. Haha. Pero hindi “oo” ang sinasabi ko. Madalas ang sinasabi ko ay “Aaaah” na parang naintindihan ko at nag-agree ako sa sinabi nya kahit wala talaga ako nasaksak sa utak ko.

3. “San ka na?” “Malapit na” (Nasa bhay pa..) )

Mamatay na ang hindi pa nakagawa neto!!! LOL. Seriously, I think at least once in our lives, we became guilty of this. May alternative pa ‘to eh, yung “Papunta na,” pero kakagising pa lang.

2. “Kala ko SILA pa, Kami na pala! – sabi ng students na di handa sa reporting..

Eto, hindi ako guilty, I swear!!! I love reporting. I love presenting. I love making presentations. If there’s one thing that I can say that I’m really good at, that’s making and doing presentations.

But this one is just soooo funny!
