NAIROBI, Kenya, 2024. Sheldrick Elephant Nursery takes care of 20+ baby elephants orphaned in the wild. Each baby has their own story of survival.
The most compelling are those of orphaned African elephants that were adopted by bull elephants. The bulls would still protect the baby elephant as much as they could. But sadly, protection and company aren’t enough. Baby elephants need milk for nourishment, something that the new fam couldn’t provide. Without it, they would die of starvation. So scouts still rescue them and keep them at the center until they’re ready to be released back in the wild.
