Celine

Whenever I conduct social media/travel workshops, I always say that in order to stand out in an ocean of influencers that we have today, it’s not enough to just start creating content. You have to find a niche that is close to your heart and through which you can add value to the online experience of your audience. And no one is doing that right now better than Celine Murillo.

What’s even more inspiring is that she isn’t doing it just to set herself apart, but because she has genuine love for the cause — Philippine biodiversity — that she has been championing for the longest time!

In the next few years, I’m sure her meteoric rise on Tiktok and Facebook will be the subject of many case studies, or at least a peg for many campaigns and aspiring influencers. But what they probably won’t see is that it didn’t happen overnight.

I’m reminded of an Eddie Cantor quote: “It takes years to be an overnight success.”

And it’s true. Celine has been dedicated to sharing these stories about nature and heritage for years, even when not many people were paying attention, long before Tiktok filled our screens, long before the term “social media influencer” was coined. And in an era when influencers are so polarizing, it’s so joyful to see someone with the best intentions reach this level of success. Because it’s not just well-deserved; it is absolutely sincere.

We recently launched a scholarship program that welcomes students of natural sciences, and many of the applicants single out Celine as the person they want to be like, whose endeavors they want to emulate, and the reason they want to pursue their chosen field and continue their studies.

If that is not the best example of an influencer, I don’t know what is.

So proud of you, Celine! 💙
