Top 25 Local TV Shows I Miss: Part 3 – Drama Series

Heto na ang last part ng list na ‘to. If you missed the first two parts, click here and here.

9. BITUIN

This may be the first music-oriented teleserye on Pinoy TV. It stars Nora Aunor, Cherie Gil, Desiree del Valle and the girl I miss soooo much Carol Banawa.

8. IKAW ANG LAHAT SA AKIN

Wahaha. This show was supposed to put an end to the fantasy craze during the height of Darna‘s popularity. Sadly, it failed. Nonetheless, the series proved to be one of ABS-CBN’s most entertaining. Powerhouse cast ito, led by Claudine Barretto. The treatment was somewhat Korean. John Lloyd and Bea here were hilarious. Pero yung finale, medyo lame. Hehe.

7. LOBO

Waaaaaah. Arguably the best fantasy series in Philippine TV history. The keyword there is “arguably.” Haha.

First project ni Angel Locsin as a kapamilya. Haha.

Nakaka-miss lang ang mga puti at itim. At nakakamiss din si Dimples Romana. Haha.

You still remember Lazos? I swear.

Anyway, going back to Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan, nagustuhan ko na ginamit nila yung reincarnation. 2002 and 1902. Refreshing lang. Si Carlos Agassi yung leading man dito, wahaha. At two years ang tinagal ng show na ‘to. Akalain mo, two years na blooming ang career ni Amir. (Shet, nag-rhyme.)

Ehehe. Aminin natin. Sila talaga ang stars nung show na ‘to.

4. BASTA’T KASAMA KITA

Waaaaah. The best Juday teleserye for me. Heto:

In Basta’t Kasama Kita, Judy Ann plays Princess, a young law graduate who, much to the surprise of her family and friends, forgoes a promising career as a lawyer to sign up with the National Bureau of Investigation as a rookie agent. Princess unexpected choice, however, was spurred by her need to know what happened to her father, Godofredo (John Arcilla), an NBI agent who disappeared fifteen years ago, and is now presumed dead. Despite being very young when Godofredo disappeared, and despite the insistence of her mother (Sylvia Sanchez) that he is indeed dead, Princess believes he is still alive – and is determined to find him, no matter what.

Princess’ unusual abilities and background lead her straight to NBI’s top-secret squad, EAGLES (Elite Agents of Government Against Lawless Elements of Society). This in turn, brings her a senior partner, a macho but brilliant veteran agent named Ambet Katindig (Robin Padilla), whose streetsmart exterior hides a softhearted family guy devoted to his mother Nanay Ligaya (Gina Pareño) and his adopted family of misfits (Nikki Valdez, Jiro Manio and Hannah Bustillos). Despite having constant fights with Ambet, Princess eventually realizes that Ambet is a man she can depend on – but can she lower her guard enough to let him into her life?

It didn’t actually feel like a teleserye. Kasi they deal with cases one or two at a time.

In the end, makikita nya yung tatay niya. pero grabe lang yung twist. Hahaha.

3. MAGING SINO KA MAN

I never… said… that I love you. Wahaha.

I’d never been so crazy over a local drama series since Kaytagal Kang Hinintay. Great story. Perfect casting. Wonderful script. Excellent direction. Its performance in the Mega Manila ratings game was not that impressive but who cares about numbers, right? Especially when you get real quality entertainment.

We all know that Bea and John Lloyd are really good actors, so it shouldn’t come to you as a surprise. But Anne Curtis was the real shocker here. I mean, I’ve seen her evolve from doing sexy-but-pffft roles on GMA7 before. I was surprised yet amazed by her performance in Hiram as Stephanie. I thought, that was all she could give. But Anne’s acting in this soap opera was a standout. Wow. She was soo good I’d cried several times in front of the television. She’s bound to be one of the most important actresses of her generation (of course, along with Bea Alonzo, Maja Salvador, and Angelica Panganiban). Obviously, Maging Sino Ka Man turned me into a big Anne Curtis fan. I just adore Celine.

2. SA SANDALING KAILANGAN MO AKO

Mini-series lang ‘to pag Monday night starring Marvin Agustin and Piolo Pascual. Haha. Pero hindi sila yung loveteam. Sayang. Haha.

1. KAYTAGAL KANG HININTAY

Grabe lang. Ang ganda ganda ganda neto. Lorna Tolentino leads a powerhouse cast as twins Lorrea and Lorrinda Guinto aka Red Butterfly. Lorrea accidentally takes the place of her twin in the dangerous world of the drug lords. Andito rin si John Estrada as Boris and Rica Peralejo as Helaena Argos.

This show gave birth to what would prove to be the strongest loveteam of this generation — John Lloyd-Bea.

At yung ending… pamatay!

Yun lang naman. Andaming John Lloyd-Bea shows. Haha. Muntikan pa ngang pumasok ang It Might Be You dyan eh. Hehe. I miss Lawrence and Cielo.

Comments

  2. BITUIN – i loved it because im sort of a Noranian. sort of.

IALSA – naging iconic na yung image na nagpepedicab si Claudine. that pretty much sums up the whole show for me.

LOBO – best supporting actress award for Lady L.

SDNWH – di napanindigan yung dalawang timelines. Sally became the new Selena (Mula Sa Puso).

PSY – You’re absolutely right. It’s the Amor Powers-Madame Claudia Show.

MSKM – sumikat sa “I Never… Said… That I love you” and sa “Yes! I am a slut. But I’m the best slut in town.” perfectly cast series. both lead and supporting. love ChinChin!

SSKMA – gaaaad. this is soooo old Yoshke. i never saw this.

KTKH – Yuri. Dmitri. Boris. Anilov. Keri? Hindi naging effective si Bing Loyzaga as the antagonist, kaya pinatay siya at pinalitan ni Jean Garcia as Lady Morgana. Hahahaha.

    ***

How come walang Mula Sa Puso? and Iisa Pa Lamang? hahaha. namimiss ko na nga kagad ang IPL, eh!

    • SA DULO… Trew. Medyo hindi kasi nag-rate nung 2 pa yung timelines. Medyo nawindang pa siguro yung mga tao nun. Pero nung nawala yung 1901, biglang nagskyrocket yung ratings. haha.

BKK… Pero maganda yung show.

MSKM… Wahaha. Corazon is the Corazon. Acheb.

SA SANDALI… Eh natatandaan ko pa sya. hahaha.

KAYTAGAL… Trew! To think na angganda nung role nya. Tsaka ayos din si Edu Manzano bilang Henry Argos. Kaso umalis sya sa show, kaya ayun, pinatay sya. Pero GUMANDA NANG BONGGANG BONGGA YUNG STORY. hahaha

  3. very kafamily!

    • MARA CLARA — wahaha, totoo. 4 years nilang hinanap yung diary na yun!

PANAGAKO — Bea Bianca Bejerano? Tama ba. Vanessa del Bianco FTW! At si Dyno! Hahaha.

(as in paking shet) ang naganap.. NAGBROWN OUT……. WAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! I hate meralco forever…. hoho.. joke…

  6. I love mylene dizon in Sa Dulo, di ko lng magets kung san talaga nag-ugat ung galit nya kay Angeline (Claudine).

Fave ko din ang Bituin! haha. for the first time, walang mga exagg na kontrabida na tipong magpapasabog ng mga bus (like Selena in MSP). sayang nga si Carol. Jan si Andromeda di ba? (Jessa Zaragoza)

Lobo.. the first parts were soooo kakilig. lalo na nung pakikay si Angel tapos pa-rigid effect si Piolo. Kaso di ko na masyado nasubaybayan. Good comeback for Timmy Cruz. bwahaha.

Tapos tumatak pa sa akin ung mga ENCA words like Avisala for Kumusta, Pashnea for Hayop ka, etc. haha.

My most fave ABS-CBN teleserye is HIRAM, hehe. I love hearty. and ang galing dun ni Anne.

Lobo.. the first parts were soooo kakilig. lalo na nung pakikay si Angel tapos pa-rigid effect si Piolo. Kaso di ko na masyado nasubaybayan. Good comeback for Timmy Cruz. bwahaha

  7. Excuse me ES. Kung madalaw naman ako sa blog mo. Hahaha.

about Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay ano, which is my most favorite kapamilya teleserye ever (kapuso kasi ako), natatandaan ko pa na si Rica Peralejo at si John Lloyd Cruz talaga ang loveteam dito anoh, but noooo later in the series si Bea Alonzo naaa. Loveeeth.

Isa pang maganda yung ano na ito, Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas yata, yung follow-up ng Pangako Sayo with Kristine Hermosa, Jericho Rosales at Diether Ocampo as main cast? Yung dalawa yung ending? Sinubaybayan ko rin siya, k? At sa dulo-dulo mas ginusto kong magkatuluyan si Diet at Kristine kaya more more boto ako through text votes! Kaso natalo, Echo-Tintin pa rin. Haaaay.

    Sarap lang alalahanin.

    • natatandaan ko pa na si Rica Peralejo at si John Lloyd Cruz talaga ang loveteam dito anoh, but noooo later in the series si Bea Alonzo naaa.

A part of me believes na plano talaga nila na hindi John Lloyd-Rica yung loveteam nun.

Tsaka the fact na sa umpisa, parang pinapangit nila si Bea, feeling ko alam nila from the start na magiging malaki yung papel nya towards the end and kelangan mag-iba yung hitsura nya.

Isa pang maganda yung ano na ito, Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas yata, yung follow-up ng Pangako Sayo with Kristine Hermosa, Jericho Rosales at Diether Ocampo as main cast? Yung dalawa yung ending?

    1. pati yung mga substories ang gaganda. like the matet-luis alandy-victor neri trio. (mali ata yung pagkakasunod na pangalan, it seemed wrong but hot)

oo i so remember the ending.

  13. re: bastat kasama kita.
    1. hindi ko malilimutan ang kaso nilang “bloody mary”. as in ang tagal. pinaabot sa Halloween season. at katakot si maricar de mesa.
    2. kaya pala lging nakagloves si lady godiva.

    • BLOODY MARY!!!

akala ko nun, ang korni nung may horror chever sila, BUT NOOOOOOO! Best case nila yun.

May isa pang sobrang gandang case eh. Kaso hindi ko matandaan kung ano.

  14. KTKH… Yup, I totally agree with you on that. That one was my fave Pinoy drama of all time. Great acting by super talented and/or super revered actors (LT, wow! Johnny Delgado, wow! Jean Garcia, wow! Pen Medina wow! Ricky Davao, wow! John Estrada–ah este, alis! alis!), landmark performances for young stars (Lloydy, Bea, Dimples, Rica and BJ, whose previous work was largely forgettable teen-drama mush), top-notch writing (c/o Katski Flores), larger-than-life characters, high drama and spectacle and murder and underworld conspiracies… in short, everything you wish for in a quintessential Pinoy soap. Luvvvvdeeettt!!!! XD

One thing I loved about this show was that it was campy in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way. In that sense, it didn’t really take itself too seriously. Do you still remember…

    Curagos (played by Mura)?
Lady M’s surreal Death Tango with Loyal Henchman James?
Anilov as Mister X? (oh gawwwwd….)
    etc. etc.

Oh, and yeah, this show launched my Bea-JohnLloyd fandom, which even spurred me to join an online fan club (at Praning.com, of all places! yan ang jologs! hahaha), eyeball with the other fans, and actually attend a taping (or two). I still make it a point to watch their subsequent work (individually or as a love team), but nothing ever comes close to the maddening kilig thrill I’d feel when KTKH was still airing.

  15. I miss these teleseryes too! I had been looking in youtube for any clips from Basta’t Kasama Kita, pero I never found one. And Anne Curtis as Celine in maging sino ka man… ah! We thought at first that she was just being a flirt and trying to steal JB, but it turned out siya pala ang nauna. Kawawa talaga ang character niya sa teleserye na to, but it really brought out the best in Anne as an actress.

  16. Kay Tagal kang Hinintay
    -peborit ko rin to. uber.
Ang nostalgic lang ng blog mo.
    Parang ang tanda ko na.

    Basta’t Kasama Kita
-pinakanatatandaan kong case ay yun “My Way” case na nasaksak yung bf ni Princess na si… basta yung character ni Tj Trinidad.

I love your blog. More power!

  17. How about Saan Ka Man Naroroon? Claudine played 3 different characters of triplets, Rosario, Rosenda, and Rosemarie. I miss the triplets in the soap opera, especially Rosenda! It’s also the best soap opera of Claudine ever, aside from Lazos De Amor.

  18. How about Saan Ka Man Naroroon? Claudine Barretto played 3 different characters of triplets Rosario, Rosenda, and Rosemarie. I miss the triplets in the soap, especially Rosenda! It’s also the best soap opera of Claudine Barretto ever, one of my favourites, aside from Mexican telenovela, Lazos De Amor.
